The Art of Distraction:SC Governor Apologizes Again

South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford has offered up yet another apology. This time it was his Cabinet members who were subjected to his whining about his personal indiscretions.

The citizens of South Carolina should not allow themselves to be lead astray by the art of distraction being practiced by Sanford. In his long-winded apologies, he refers God and Bible passages, clearly none of which mattered much to him while he was carrying on his infamous affair. Nor did it matter to him when, as the head of a state consistently at or very near the bottom of the list when compared to the rest of the country on issues like the poor economy, health care and education, he used state funds to finance his rendezvous with his mistress in Argentina. Now he declares that he will pay back the $12,000.00 to the state. Gee, thanks, Mr. Governor.

Mr. Sanford, if you truly want to do the right thing, do the state of South Carolina a solid favor by resigning. Not tomorrow. Not next week. Right now. You left your post without giving notice to anyone in your down line, thereby leaving the state in a vulnerable position. Your personal dalliances are of no consequence to anyone but your wife and children, save the fact that you showed no regard for your professional duties that you took an oath to carry out when you became governor of the state. Your lies, failure to maintain professional integrity, improper use of state monies and dereliction of your duty as the head of the state affect every member of the South Carolina public.

Save your affected regret for your family and discontinue this outrageous course of public apologies designed for the sole purpose of directing the public's attention away from what truly matters... you have been an ineffective leader of the State of South Carolina for sometime now. Perhaps the underlying reason was your illicit, long distance affair. Perhaps you simply were never right for the job.

While I am certain South Carolinians appreciate your candor regarding your recent acknowledgment of your weaknesses and defects, it is nothing more than a self-serving ploy if you do not leave office.

Usher to Let Marriage Burn --- He's Divorcing Wife

Almost two years after his highly publicized and controversial wedding to his former stylist, Tameka Foster, R&B singer, Usher has filed papers seeking a divorce according to Atlanta court documents. Fans of the triple threat, who sings, dances and acts, weren't shy about expressing their disappointment that Usher had decided to marry Foster in 2007. Some felt strongly that she was not the right choice for him because of their eight year age difference (Foster is older). The couple has two sons both under the age of two. Yes, Beattles Fans, there is a real Lucy!

Any Beattles fan worth his salt knows the 1967 hit song Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds from their album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Everyone thought the song was about the use of LSD but it was inspired by John Lennon's son Julian's drawing of his friend Lucy. Julian Lennon and Lucy Vodden were just 4 years old when Julian drew the picture at school and brought it home to his father saying, "That's Lucy in the sky with diamonds." John crafted a song around it that fans still love today.

Admittedly, I had never heard of the song until maybe five years ago. I was born in the latter part of 1966, so I was less than a year old when the song was released. However, I am a huge Natalie Cole fan. I bought Natalie's CD, Greatest Hits Volume 1, several years ago. While I was cleaning house one day, I put on that CD and just let it play. Usually, with any CD, I only play the songs I know and love. Well, since that day, I no longer do that. I listen to the entire CD at least once in hopes of finding another song that grabs me like the one I found that day. It's number six on the CD and it's titled, Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds. Like I said, I had never heard of the song before but Natalie tore it up! Do ya hear me? I immediately set about learning the lyrics so that I could sing along. Of course, I assumed Natalie recorded the song during her days of drug usage (which she freely admitted to, took responsibility for and turned her life around... good for you, girl!). It wasn't until I pulled out the CD insert that listed the song's authors that I realized that this crazy-intoxicating song was a Beattles tune written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney.

As for the real Lucy, she is 46 years old now. Unfortunately, she is battling Lupus, an autoimmune disease. Autoimmune illnesses literally cause the body to attack itself, causing chronic, debilitating and often deadly sickness. Upon learning of his old friend's grave circumstances, Julian Lennon got in touch with her and they remain in contact. Had it not been for their story, like everyone else, I would have continued to think the song was about drug use. It's much more heart-warming to know that it's about the friendship of two 4-year-old school kids, especially since they've renewed their friendship as adults.

Don't you just love stories that spotlight the humanitarian side of people?! I do. Peace and blessings to you, Lucy and Julian. Natalie, have a speedy recovery from your kidney transplant surgery!

Kris Allen is The American Idol 2009!

After a record setting vote of nearly 100 million, Kris Allen was named the 2009 American Idol. Allen, from Conway, AR, was almost speechless. He appeared to be in shock that he beat out Adam Lambert, widely thought to be the shoe-in.

Allen proved to be the more well-rounded performer, playing the guitar and piano as well as singing. His boyish good looks certainly did not hamper his progress in the competition. Fans also seemed to be attracted to his humble, quiet demeanor. He never talked back to the judges even in the face of sometimes harsh criticism.

Kris, if you read the blogs, and come across this one, embrace your win! You worked hard to earn it and the fans voted for you because you deserve it. It seems as though you were sure Adam was going to win. The fans have lots of love for him, too but it does not detract from your talent and performance abilities. America voted and you are the 2009 American Idol. Enjoy the position and all that comes with it. NO BOUNDARIES!!!

Business Card Buzz: Anybody Know a Good Mechanic?

When looking for a mechanic to fix your car, you look for someone who:

~ is highly proficient
~ has years of experience
~ sets fair rates for parts and services
~ is honest

That can be a tall order these days. You're not likely to find that kind of service at the dealership (the high prices prevent that immediately). It's difficult to find an honest repairman regardless of what needs fixing.

It's not impossible, though... if you take your car to Healon's Automotive. For those of you who live in and around Sumter, South Carolina, you can get all of the qualities listed above delivered with a courteous attitude. Mark Healon, the owner, also shows a genuine gratitude that you have entrusted him with your Gertrude, Bessie, or whatever name you've given your car.

Put Healon's to the test. The next time your car breaks down, call the dealership and one or two other local garages and price their parts and services. Then call Healon's and ask them for a price quote. You'll be pleasantly surprised and so will your wallet or purse.

My car failed to crank today. I called two garages. The first wanted to charge me $65.00 for a tow to their facilities (where I may or may not want to have my car fixed). I called Healon's and Mark just happened to answer the phone. I told him that I thought my battery was dead and asked how much I could expect to pay for a tow. In an effort to save me the cost of towing the vehicle, he sent a mechanic to my home with a booster. I followed him back to the garage to have the car checked out. My battery is okay and I'm not out of pocket for an unnecessary tow. I decided to leave Baby Blue anyhow because the dealership told me that she needed her front brakes replaced. I'm getting it done for a cheaper price than the dealership and the other garage, considered to be one of the best, quoted. Those who are really in-the-know know that Healon's is the best for great service and affordable prices.

Need your car fixed? Now you know where to go! Healon's Automotive. Give them a call. Their business card information is provided below.

Free Tuition for Nursing Program *** Closed Permanently

Dear Readers,

When information is passed on to me from others, I usually check it out prior to posting it here. However, in this instance, I did not take the time to do that because the email indicated that this had already been done and it was legitimate. Since this post was done in May originally, it could have been true at that time. Today's date is July 9, 2009 and the information on the Urban Alliance Foundation's website states that the UA is no longer enrolling students for the Health Alliance Program and will not do so ever again. No reason is offered but site visitors are asked not to inquire about the program.

In my estimation, phrases such as "no longer" and "We will not enroll participants ever again" indicate that at some point, the UA was involved with the program and enrollment of participants.

With that said, a simple visit to the website renders the original post below or any other posts on other websites or blogs obsolete.

My thanks to tasha18 for taking me to task on this post! If you are searching for a way to pay for your college costs, keep looking. There are many programs out there to assist students in achieving their goals. Nursing tends to be a field that is always experiencing a shortage, so I would think that finding scholarships, grants, and the like is an obtainable goal. Best of luck in your quest!

*************************** Program Closed *****************************************

Do you want to become a nurse? Then the University of the District of Columbia (UDC)wants you!

Interested applicants 18-28 years old will receive:

FREE tuition
FREE books
$250 monthly stipend

American Idol results disappointing

Season 8 of American Idol is nearly over with only three contestants left. Unfortunately, tonight was the end of the road for the only young woman who remained in the competition. In spite of singing circles around Allen and Gokey the night before, Allison Iraheta did not garner enough votes to move on to the top three. As with past Idol contestants who were voted off too soon, this will probably not be the last fans see of Iraheta.

The competition will continue with Adam Lambert, Danny Gokey and Kris Allen as the top three finalist. Lambert is the obvious choice to take the top prize, but the final word belongs to the millions of dedicated American Idol fans. As they've shown tonight, they are definitely rallying around Allen and Gokey to keep them going. With that in mind, we all will have to wait and see who will be the last man standing.

Good luck guys!

Oh, I almost forgot. Judge Paula Abdul gave a nice preview of what fans can expect from her new CD.

American Idol -- Adam Lambert Rocks!

The four remaining American Idol contestants, Adam Lambert, Allison Iraheta, Danny Gokey, and Kris Allen sang rock songs. Well, Adam and Allison sang rock songs. Kris and Danny gave it their best shot.

Lambert came out first and he must have waxed the floor on his way off stage because all of the other contestants fell short in comparison. Judge Simon Cowell was on point when he said that the rest would not measure up to Adam's performance (I'm paraphrasing). Allison was a very close second even though she was criticized by the judges for her song choice.

Kris Allen and Danny Gokey will probably find themselves biting their nails side by side as they wait anxiously to see which one will have to leave the competition. Gokey has a strong following but Allen may edge him out because the girls love the fact that he plays the guitar. And who could resist that smile? Good looks and the ability to hold your own with world famous rock guitarist Slash should surely trump the horrible note Gokey not only screamed but held at the end of his performance. Were the dogs in your neighborhood in an uproar, too? Yeah! Thought so.

The duets rendered by Allen and Gokey and Iraheta and Lambert should prove to anyone with decent hearing that I've been right all along... the final showdown will be between Iraheta and Lambert -- or at least it should be. He's been accused by Randy Jackson as being over-the-top and too theatrical. I've considered him to be a rocker from jump. Whichever... it doesn't matter. He is the Season 8 American Idol. And young Allison is the only one left in the competition who can give Adam a good run for his money.

By the way, all of you Paula Abdul fans, she will be performing on the results show. I still listen to Cold Hearted Snake, Straight Up and Forever Your Girl. Oh, I guess that means I'm a fan, too, huh? Well, why not!

Taking you back...

Texas police take drivers to cleaners

The tiny Texas town of Tenaha is facing a big lawsuit aimed at stopping the unlawful practice of pulling over minority motorists and taking their cash and property. CNN reports that drivers passing through Tenaha have been threatened with jail time or having their children taken away from them if they refused to sign a document agreeing to forfeit funds and even jewelry allegedly taken right off of the driver's finger and worn by the officer. The most bizarre part of the story is that the officer accused in the shakedowns is himself a minority. He is black. Be sure to read the rest of the story at CNN.COM/360.

Will.i.am hook-up on Oprah

Multi-talented Black Eyed Peas front man, William J. Adams, aka Will.i.am visited the Oprah show to spread a little inspiration by hooking up four young men who are in high school and were in jeopardy of not being able to attend college.

During a chat with Oprah's BFF, Gayle King, Will.i.am revealed to her that he had some money that he had saved from gigs as a DJ that he wanted to use to help someone in need. Gayle went to work and found four young men to present to the busy actor, singer, rapper, songwriter and producer who live in households headed by single, struggling mothers. Twins Barien and Darien, Elijah, and Jaiquann, had worked and studied hard to fulfill dreams of attending college and carving out better lives for them and their families. None expected his dream to come true under current circumstances.

Unable to choose just one from amongst the four to bless with a full college scholarship through his new foundation, iamscholarship.org , Will.i.am decided to bestow scholarships on all four, allowing them to attend the college of their choice. A full scholarship covers tuition, books and room and board. Way to give back, Will!

Will.i.am can proudly declare i.am.inspiration!

I Cheated on Jillian Michaels

I emerged from the shower with a squeaky clean body but a conscience soiled with the knowledge that I had been unfaithful. Wait, allow me to go back a bit... Even after seeing my partner's interaction with others and loathing the feelings it dredged up, I still wanted to give her a fair shot and try to make our budding relationship work. At first I was timid about being alone with her, unsure of how I would react. Suddenly, Monday morning arrived and as soon as my tired eyes popped open, I knew that I could wait no longer to connect with her.

As everyone has experienced from time to time, I had one of those horrid days that refused to go along as I had planned. I had to postpone our encounter until the evening. I dressed casually in shorts and a t-shirt with my hair down. I'm most confident when I'm wearing comfortable clothing and don't have to worry about how I look. I sauntered into the living room where Jillian was already waiting. She started things nice and easy. I had not expected that. It was refreshing and appreciated. Not long after giving me a bit of time to warm up to her, things took off and I found myself becoming quite heated. Girlfriend made me lose my breath!

Before I could even reach for a towel, sweat was racing down my face at a faster pace than we were moving. Jillian had made my temperature soar within minutes. Yes, I was hot, on fire! We did it standing, on a mat but sometimes on the bare floor. Pushing and pumping... oh my, how she worked me! And she never screamed, not once. The experience was exhilarating but not enough to keep me faithful.

I can't pinpoint the exact time that I began to fantasize about someone else. All I know is that in the midst of all the heavy breathing, when I felt weak at the knees, I knew she was too much for me. "Oh, have mercy!" I managed to beg between pants but my pleas went unheard. Once Jillian gets going, she doesn't slow down; but that's only because of her fierce dedication. She told me about her dedication in the beginning. I believe her now. Even when I became accusatory and cursed at her, she continued to push. "Damn! Bi*atch, you're trying to kill me," I moaned. So, finally, I did the only thing I could. I cheated on Jillian Michaels.

Instead of doing one of those damned exercises, I marched in place. It is still marching if your feet never leave the floor, isn't it? And when it was time to get down on the mat for another minute of ab work, I laid there for at least 30 seconds before joining in with Jillian and her "best girls." Ha! Just two more skinny b-words as far as I'm concerned. You know, I never actually watched that show, "The Biggest Loser" but I've seen previews and I've heard that the contestants don't like Jillian much, at least in the beginning. Now I understand why. And I hate her rass, too! She will work the stank crap out of you! But I digress. Let's get back to the unfaithfulness.

As I was about to get into the shower and just lay on the floor long enough to take a much needed rest and let the warm water soothe my newly beaten down muscles, in the mirror I saw my stomach that's about as big as it was when I was pregnant close to two decades ago. There was no way to escape noticing the upper back fat, either. Reality busted me smack in the face, above the slightly doubled chin, reminding me that I couldn't drop Jillian just yet. Even if I had to continue to cheat on her during our daily 20 minutes together, I had to stay with her.

With that resolve, I got up the next morning and returned to the living room with my exercise mat and hand weights in tow and put the DVD, "30 Day Shred" into the player. As the DVD started to play, I realized that after a speech that only took her about 45 seconds, Jillian said, "Enough talk!" I should have known at that point the night before that my flat rass was in trouble, over my head. Silly me, I didn't hit the stop button that morning, either. When I pressed play for the first workout routine again, (what, you thought I'd be brave enough to move up to the next level? Let me borrow a line from Whitney Houston with a little addendum... Hell to the Naw and back to Hell first, MOFO!). Didn't I tell you the bi*atch tried to kill me?! And that was the easiest level! The night before, as I passed my son's room and he was looking at me like "what the freak happened to you, Mom?", I explained to him that I was pretty sure I was dead but miraculously, I was still able to walk and talk. Honestly, I think it was the sweat that was still racing down my face and the once straight hair that was now shriveled up and frazzled on the ends so much so that it resembled a rat's nest that caused him to look at me in such a shocked fashion. I digress... back to the story. So, Jillian and I are about to return to the Level 1 workout routine that I had come so close to completing the night before. If you count the one or two or possibly three times I managed to march in place and keep my feet on the floor, then, we can just agree that I completed it.

Alright! Here we go! What the? Uh! My feet wouldn't move! Jillian and her best girls were exercising without me. And if it weren't bad enough that I had just cheated on her the night before by marching in place, as I tried in vein to pick up my feet and my legs decided to band with my feet against me by cramping up, I suddenly found myself fantasizing that I was spending quality time with an ex. Oh, why lie about it? I never really stopped seeing my ex. From time to time, we'd get together and work it out. So, it wasn't surprising that today, I longed for the support my ex was always able to provide. I never felt like I was alone but had someone there to cheer me on. Some people don't think that it's wise to return to an ex, after all, you broke up for some reason. But I couldn't deal with Jillian just then and I longed for the soothing voice my ex is known for. And besides, there was something new that I had not tried with the old ex. Yes, today, I'd spend a few minutes with my ex! Twelve to be exact.

I promptly popped that exercise Nazi named Jillian back into the DVD case and pulled out a DVD that I had purchased but never used by my old standby, Denise Austin... The Daily Dozen. Previously, I had tired of her cheerleader's voice. In the beginning it was nice to have someone not just talking you through the routines but gently nudging you along with phrases like, "Come on! You can do it!" Then, it just became irritating and made me want to smash the T.V. and throw the DVD player on the floor and stomp on it when she had worked me to the max and had the nerve to continue to try to propel me forward with that smile that masked how hard that shyt really was. By the end of the routine, I'd be cussing at her, too... "shut up with your fake azz. Makin' this shyt seem easy. Bi*atch, you tryin' to kill me!" But I had hope, lots of hope, for this new routine. It only takes twelve minutes a day! How hard could that be? That's a whole eight minutes less than that other will-work-your-azz-off-wench. Okay, that was wrong. I could have just called her a Drill Sergeant. Yes, yes! You're right, okay? I have been vehemently against name calling. But she started it by taking me back to my Army days.

Back to the story at hand, I put in dear Denise's DVD. Sometimes, the familiar can be so comforting. Know what I mean? Of course, you do. I was still dragging from the beating I had endured the night before, but I felt confident that I could last the full twelve minutes. So, I wasn't worried when breathing became difficult and labored. I just had to find my rhythm, that's all. I was even okay with the sweat racing down my face. "It's okay," I said out loud to myself. I even repeated Denise's mantra, "Come on! You can do it!" So, it came as a complete shock to me when I found myself marching in place without lifting my feet from the floor, again! The morning after cheating on Jillian Michaels, I'm cheating with my ex on my ex!

I may as well face the truth. Sadly, I am an exercise ho! I can't be faithful to a DVD personal trainer. No matter how supportive and encouraging they are, I find myself taking shortcuts. Sometimes, I just stop the DVD and go on into the stretch that you're supposed to do at the end. Hey, some days are just harder than others. Even though I've been the most faithful with Leslie Sansone with her "Walk Away the Pounds", there are just some days when I'm too tired to use those damned weighted balls. I did finally finish the three mile walk last year, though. Yeah, me!! Just once, but still, I did it. Yeah, me!!

What can I say? The years and health issues have caught up with me. Gone are the days of eating whatever I want, whenever I want with no worries of getting fat. Now, I am fat. It's a struggle to slim down again but I'm not giving up. The one person I'm determined to be faithful to is me! I may not be able to work out with Jillian or Denise or even Leslie every day and complete every task, but I can do something. I just have to keep moving. The key is to expend more calories than I take in daily. I love food (sweets and potato chips are my weakness), but I'm slowly getting better at controlling my portions. Trying to completely deny myself some food item backfires every time.

Oh, and I'm not all alone in my quest to banish this bulging belly. I've got a best friend and a former co-worker who let me tag along to the local park and we chit-chat our way around the mile long track anywhere from 1 1/2 to 3 times at least three days a week. And let me just tell you this, it is so much better than working out in my living room. Ladies, there's usually some dude with a banging, muscular, sweaty body jogging or kicking around a soccer ball or something. And sometimes I forget about my belly when they make eye contact and say "hello" in a husky, I'm all male tone. Of course, still being the shy person that I am, I speak quickly and redirect my gaze. Then I turn back to check out his butt when I think he's not looking. What? You didn't think I was a lesbian because my story is titled "I cheated on Jillian Michaels", did you? You've got to be kidding!!! I love that D-thang too much. It was a cheap ploy to get your attention.

And I hope it worked. I know that there are millions of you out there who are just like me. It may not be due to health issues or a love of food, but for whatever reason, you need to get right with your weight, too. Join me! Come on... you can do it! What do you say? I'll even post a picture and an update once in a while so that you can see how I'm doing. Did I just say that? Damn, it seems I've lost my mind as well. No, really. I'd do that just for you. Let's fight off all the bad things that grab your hand and tag along for the ride when you become overweight... Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, aching backs and knees and feet, sleep apnea, and the list goes on. Of course, you can be thin and have some of these issues, too (been there, will surely be there again after losing weight but at least I can look good with it, ye-ah!).

Denise Austin has been in the fitness business forever and she has many different DVDs for you to choose from as do Leslie Sansone and Jillian Michaels. Please know that Jillian and Denise have different styles but neither is a joke. Of course, there are so many others out there with great work out routines and diet plans. If you'd prefer to dance off the pounds, some of the Dancing with the Stars folks have DVDs available. My favorite professional dancer is Cheryl Burke because I can just imagine myself looking and dancing like her. Hey, stop laughing! Everybody needs to have a dream. You just have to know when you're being delusional and your dream is impossible, that's all. Back to my motivational ending... handsome Dr. Ian Smith has his 50 million pounds challenge. Get busy with Billy Blanks or the ladies of The Firm if you're crazy... no, that's not the word, but I can't think of a better one. Yes, Billy and The Firm tried to kill me, too. I managed to escape unharmed. Seriously, though, choose the poison that best suits you. That's why I walk with the best friend and the former co-worker. And I know that you know what's coming... I cheat on the former co-worker when I can't hang with her 'cause girlfriend has longer legs and it's hard to keep up with her even when she's taking it easy on me. No! I am not ashamed to be a cheat. Let's call it having a variety and move on, people. At least I'm moving. Can you say the same? If you can't honestly say it today, there's always tomorrow. Remember to check with your doctor before beginning any exercise plan.

Here's to our weight loss, friends! I'm trying to bring my sexy back before a real ex comes to visit. Never let the ex see you fat. Good luck! And be blessed.

Competitive Pole Dancing

Just when you think you've heard it all, someone comes up with competitive pole dancing. According to Inside Edition, it's being considered as an addition to the Olympic games. A quick Google search of the phrase turns up link after link to blogs about the new "sport" complete with pictures and videos. Check out the Facebook petition aimed at getting pole dancing into the 2012 Olympics. Hey, it takes skill to balance one's self on a pole! And do you see how thin those women are? Pole dancing is entertaining, a financial vehicle for performers and a heck of a fitness program to boot! Go for it, girls! If I could do it, I'd swing from a pole, too. Hell, yeah!!

Aw, come on! What kind of blogger would I be if I didn't provide pics and video footage when available? Before you decide not to watch, ladies it's impressive. You might be saying "Dayum! I gotta get me one of those!" It was my first thought. I'm just sayin'...

Marking the 2nd anniversary of Va. Tech Tragedy

Thousands marked the second anniversary of the day Seung-Hui Cho took the lives of 32 students at Virginia Tech. Many other students were injured. Click here to read the full article.

Never Good-bye

On April 16, 2007, an unfathomable, horrific and stunning tragedy
Visited the Virginia Tech campus quite unexpectedly
A troubled soul decided to end his secret pain
By targeting innocent, unsuspecting students and faculty in a murderous reign

We cannot imagine what it was like for the victims as we were not there
But for all those left behind, we are here... your lingering burden from this crisis to share
With thirty two beautiful lives prematurely snatched into non-surrendered sleep
How could we not grieve with you? Indeed, our hearts weep

To the families and friends of the students and professors so callously taken away
That you are blessed to walk in God’s grace, mercy and peace, we pray
To the surviving students, faculty and staff, continue to find strength through
your faith and Hokie pride
Knowing that a concerned nation prays for you and stands by your side

One dark hearted man made the cost of an education too high... deplorable and
devastatingly true
But he could not steal your essence and memory. They are nestled safely in the
hearts of those who love you
And just as you shined in your earthly life, you will illuminate the heavenly sky
We yield to a reluctant, bittersweet parting but we will never say good-bye

Sexting: Teen trend explored on today's Dr. Phil show

Parents, in case you've missed all of the other shows aimed at educating you on the latest teen craze called sexting, you'll want to tune in or Tivo Dr. Phil today. Sexting is the act of sending nude or sexual photos via the cell phone or other electronic devices. Tyra, GMA, and Today have all had segments on the topic.

This seemingly fun and harmless activity has landed some teens in jail on child pornography charges. Once convicted, the offender must register as a sex offender. This type of charge can be leveled whether the teen sends or receives the photo(s) in some cases.

In addition to the legal issues, some of the teenagers find themselves in the cross hairs of those who enjoy ridiculing others. One young woman hanged herself because of the overwhelming and negative attention she encountered after a nude photo of her made the rounds through her high school.

Dr Phil devotes today's show to educating parents on the dangers of sexting. Parents routinely assume that their child would never be involved in sexting and other dangerous trends teenagers engage in but most of the parents who have been interviewed on other shows regarding the subject admit to being mistaken with sometimes dire consequences.

This is your chance to learn about the practice of sexting so that you can intervene, if necessary, before your child makes a mistake that cannot be undone. Sometimes children have to be protected from themselves and the peer pressure they face daily.

Wired Safety is a website offering simple tips to parents designed to protect kids. As the Good Morning America episode revealed, even pre-teen children are taking shocking pictures and videos and forwarding them with their cell phones or other electronic devices.

Dr. Parry Aftab of Wired Safety has offered the following suggestions for parents.

Google: your child's first and last name in quotes Ex: "Jane Doe"
search screen names and address as well
your child's cell phone number in quotes Ex: "555-123-1212"
"Google Desktop" Download free software
Look for *avi for videos and *gpg for images
Visit www.wiredsafety.com and www.getgamesmart.com for other tips

Most importantly, parents should have a frank discussion with their children and discuss the pitfalls of sexting.

In related news, Oprah will be interviewing 14-year old children who claim that they are ready to have sex.

Domino's Workers arrested after tampering with food.

Michael Anthony Setzer, 32, and Kristy Lynn Hammonds,31, laughed it up as Setzer stuffed cheese up his nose and played with salami near his behind while Hammonds recorded the nasty video. The two tampered with food as they made sandwhiches that Hammands claimed would be delivered to unsuspecting customers at a Domino's Pizza in Conover, NC and posted the disgusting video on Youtube.

Both workers were fired and arrested. They were charged with distributing prohibited foods. The video has since been removed from Youtube. The video also showed Setzer sneezing over a sandwich and appearing to bury a "bugger" from his nose in the sandwich. He also pulled down his pants, wiped a sponge over his rear end, and then washed dishes and utensils with the soiled sponge. Viewers cringed as reporters showed the video. It's enough to make anyone rethink eating out for a while.

Hammonds was still in custody at the Catawba County jail as of Wednesday night while Setzer was released on a $7,500 bond.

A Domino's spokesperson said that the company found no evidence that the unsanitary sandwiches were delivered to customers. Tim McIntyre also said the company is considering a lawsuit.

Domino's CEO Patrick Doyle posted a video response to the prank assuring customers that the restaurant had been sanitized thoroughly. According to Doyle, hiring practices are being revisited to prevent people like Hammonds and Setzer from being hired in the future.

Jaime Foxx Apologizes on Tonight Show

During an appearance on the Tonight Show, Jaime Foxx apologized to Miley Cyrus for the comments he made about her on his satellite radio show, the Foxxhole. Jay Leno asked Foxx about the incident and said that he knew it had been bothering him. Click here to watch the full episode or choose the chapter(s) you want to watch.

Foxx said he's a comedian and doesn't mean any of the things he says. He also said that the jokes were taken out of context and blown out of proportion; so, he wanted to nip it in the bud.

I'm glad he stepped up and apologized.

Adam Lambert Owns American Idol Season 8!

Adam Lambert has had control of the American Idol stage since he let out the first note. Last week, I became convinced that the final two will come down to Lambert and the 16-year old sensation that is Allison Iraheta. Both happen to be from Los Angeles, CA. Lambert has owned season eight from the beginning. Even my son, who never bothers to watch Idol, has been turning up to watch him perform. Initially, he thought that Idol was pulling a fast one by planting a professional performer in the contest. This guy is clearly in a category all by himself. And he's such a pretty boy! I love it.

Obviously, all of the contestants are very talented. Otherwise, they never would have made it this far. I had high hopes for many of them, even some of those who have departed. But, it is what it is. And that would be a contest. Somebody has to be eliminated tomorrow. I am more than a little concerned for Lil Rounds and Kris Allen. Matt Giraud may be teetering on the edge as well. Barring a miracle, I stand by my prediction that the final battle will be fought by Iraheta and Lambert with Lambert winning hands down.

Jaime Foxx Berates Miley Cyrus

Jaime Foxx and his crew at the Foxxhole, his satellite radio show, launched into an expletive laced tirade about teen Disney star, Miley Cyrus, after a listener called in to complain about Cyrus dissing the band Radio Head. Click here to listen to the audio.

First, Foxx asked who Cyrus was, as if he didn't know. I'm not a fan of the young Cyrus, but everyone knows who the kid is by now because her image and music are everywhere. Then, he proceeded to make fun of her gums... too much gum and small teeth. Cyrus was called a "white bitch" ... did we have to go there with the race issue? We'd be enraged if a white person called one of our sistas a "black bitch" in a public forum. Foxx and friends said that she should "grow up and make a sex tape" (with her dad, someone chimed in). In addition, they said that 16-year old Miley should do drugs and "catch chlamydia from a bicycle seat"!

Foxx's comments are so distasteful because he is 41... much too old to come at a teen aged girl like that, especially since he has a teen aged daughter of his own. Had someone spoken about his child like that, I'm sure he'd want to fight (or kill, even). I realize that he is a comedian and is expected to say outlandish things to keep his fans tuned in, but come on, Jaime. Really? Like that?

American girls have bad enough images about themselves. Young ladies should be respected and taught to respect and love themselves. They should never be degraded in such an offensive manner. And think of the example that you're setting for young men who look up to you! I think you made quite a misstep, Mr. Foxx. I've always admired your tremendous talent to make us laugh through your comedy, move us with your music, and engage us with your acting ability. You're already on top, baby! There's no need to put this child down to pull yourself up even higher.

I don't even understand why the verbal attack took place. Are you close to the Radio Head band? What? Is Miley Cyrus not allowed to be disappointed because she was denied permission to meet them backstage? She probably should have kept her opinion of that incident to herself; but, still, she is entitled to voice her hurt and anger regardless of how overly ambitious her desire to "ruin" their career happened to be.

This was beneath you, Jaime. I hope someone will be able to post an audio of you apologizing. Are you man enough?

BTW, I did a post on this very subject (an adult demeaning a child) 27Jan08. I'm reposting the poem I included for those who need a refresher.

No Shame in My Name

Most of us answer to the name given to us at birth
Never equating it to our feelings of self worth
But what happens when we are called by the name of something
we could never be?
The result is that it slowly chips away at our image inwardly
Whether accosted in public or behind closed doors with a name less than adorable
The use of such a demeaning form of censure is simply deplorable
A young girl being called a “heifer” during her formative years
Will most likely be left with the “I’m not good enough” doubts and fears
And the “B word” is bantered about so effortlessly
That its use easily survives through multiple generations of the family tree
We all know the names young men are called, so they won’t be repeated here
The devastating effects are seen in their lack of respect for self and
others… it’s crystal clear
Let’s raise the next generation of children with love and respect, starting now
Don’t allow yourself to refer to any woman, young or old, as a cow
Refrain from equating people to animals or words intended solely to shame
When you refer to yourself, speak to and about others, and talk to
your children, call each person by his name
Allow love, acceptance, care and understanding to undulate in your
tone and sparkle in your eyes
You may not see an immediate effect but it will take root in their
souls and eventually rise
In turn, our children will learn to treat themselves and others they
encounter well throughout life
Begin the process at home. Never treat the stranger in the street
better than you treat your child, your husband, your wife
There are no human heifers, no human female dogs, and no
fatherless male child who should hang his head in shame
We claim to want the world to be a better place… let’s start by
calling each person by his or her rightful name

Simon Cowell Leaving American Idol?

Bloggers are buzzing about the nasty rumor that Simon Cowell is quitting American Idol. Cowell is rumored to be unable to keep pace with his hectic schedule. He has several shows on air. Besides American Idol, there is Britain's Got Talent and X Factor. Cowell also has a record label.

Love him or hate him, most Idol fans would agree that the show absolutely would not be the same without the acid-tongued judge. Cowell is the only judge of the four who is not afraid to be brutally honest. And he is almost always on point with his observations of contestants' performances. The ratings would most likely plummet if Cowell does leave.

Sunday School Teacher Arrested in Cantu Murder

A single mother who taught Sunday school at her grandfather's church in Tracy, California is in custody for the kidnapping and murder of her daughter's playmate. Eight-year old Sandra Cantu frequently played with Melissa Huckaby's five-year old daughter.

Family members say that they are stunned to learn that Huckaby has been arrested for this terrible crime because she loves children and has abundant patience with them. Cantu's body was found in the 28-year old woman's suit case in an irrigation pond. Huckaby is being held in custody in the San Joaquin County Jail without bail and on suicide watch.

Statistically, it is rare for women to kidnap and murder children. Police were shocked when Huckaby emerged as their only suspect based on her inconsistent story. They have not revealed where or how young Sandra was killed. No motive has been established.

How odd and alarming that the mother of a young daughter would take the life of someone else's young daughter! I'll ask the question again... Parents, do you know where your children are? Do you really know the person that you are entrusting your child to? Ask your children questions when they've been with someone else outside of your presence. Check their bodies for unusual marks and ask how they got there. Talk to them and let them know that they can come to you about anything, especially if someone tells them not to tell. I'm no expert but as always, I'll include helpful links.

Rest in peace, Sandra. To her family, may God bless and keep you.

Capt. Phillips rescued, three pirates killed

According to an Associated Press report, after being held hostage on the high seas for five days, Capt. Richard Phillips was freed when U.S. Navy snipers shot three of the pirates holding Phillips captive. A fourth pirate was in military custody after surrendering.

Upon learning that their captain was rescued, the crew of the Maersk-Alabama cheered and waived the American flag. They were able to escape the pirates after Capt. Phillips bravely offered himself as a hostage.

Although this hostage drama has a happy ending, pirates are said to hold more than a dozen ships and 230 sailors from various nations. The pirates are threatening to take more aggressive actions by killing hostages if attacked by potential rescuers.

Steve Harvey, is he helping women or a hypocrite?

Undoubtedly, you've heard about or even purchased and read comedian and radio talk show host Steve Harvey's new book, Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man. He's been on all the television talk shows promoting it, including Oprah and Tyra. The book has risen to the top of the New York Times bestseller list, before he appeared on Oprah.

Harvey has been touting his book as something to help women because he wants women to be armed with the right information from a man's perspective with regards to relationships. His own relationships are being dissected on the Internet in one blog or another. All one has to do is Google Steve Harvey or Steve Harvey book to find links to blogs where his fans and critics are immersed in a battle of words over the book. Many feel that the entertainer is unqualified to give serious advice to women considering the fact that he has been married three times and the second Mrs. Harvey, Mary, is currently suing their former attorney for conning her in the divorce settlement and the affidavit is rife with allegations against Harvey for everything from cheating and spousal abuse to child neglect and abandonment. Harvey supporters think that the sometimes-funny-man is sincere in his quest to assist women in the art of deciphering man-speak. Other readers believe it's just another method of making money. Men have dropped by the blogs to insist that he does not speak for them and that they would never behave in the manner described by Harvey. People have even brought up the severed friendship between Harvey and deceased comedian Bernie Mac. The rumor is that Harvey's dirty dealings killed that relationship.

The BEST BLOG on this controversy, by far (and when I say "by far," I mean by miles and miles, people) is Phyllis V. Du'Gas Blog. Admittedly, I never heard of Phyllis Du'Gas before that fateful Google search; but, now that I have found her blog, I am a fan! I can tell you that you will be as well. She speaks with eloquence and truth. I say "speaks" rather than "writes" because her words seem to be alive and vocal. With that said, Phyllis includes a link to author and poet Sharon P. Carson, who wrote a book by the same title as Harvey's years earlier. There is much speculation as to whether her title, concept and format were copied (with some changes, of course) by Harvey and his camp. Of course, Harvey has denied the allegation.

Titles cannot be copyrighted. Remember the old saying,"there's nothing new under the sun"? Well, it's certainly true that more than one person can have the same idea, although there will most likely be some differences in how those ideas play out. And the excerpts from Ms. Carson's book that I've read online do seem quite different from what Harvey has to say. Perhaps that's because he's writing from a man's perspective and intentionally set about making his material as different as possible. Perhaps not. My opinion is that it's not close enough to be called "plagiarism". However, I do like what I've read of Carson's book better than what I've read of Harvey's. As a result, I feel that my precious funds would be better spent supporting Carson, who is a self-published author, than supporting a reputed self-absorbed comedian whose ego immensely out-weighs his talent. I'm not judging Harvey, here... I don't know him, I'm simply commenting on the posts I've read about him. I think he's okay as a comedian but there are others I like a lot more. I only listen to his show when I'm in my car because he's the only one on in the mornings in my area since Tom Joyner is no longer on the air here (miss you Tom, Sybil, J. Anthony Brown, and the whole crew). But let me tell you that I don't like it when he cuts off a guest who's speaking and they don't even get around to the reason the person is on the show (and he does this consistently) or he calls a woman a "heifer". The heifer thing really ticks me off! When I found out that he was coming to our area, I just didn't feel that he was funny enough for me to actually pay to see him. From some of the comments I've read and the crazy-hilarious Katt Williams video, I was right. And besides, Sharon is a poet and author, y'all. She didn't have to get another author to write for her.

I do have one question... who the hell turned Harvey's book into a PDF and didn't email me a copy?! Dayum! LOL. For anyone else who didn't get that email and doesn't want to pay, try your local library or sit in Barnes & Noble for a hot minute and get your read on.

The last thing I want to say to anyone looking for relationship advice is this: THINK FOR YOURSELF! You know whether you're being treated well or not. You know if the relationship is costing more than you can afford to pay from an emotional standpoint. It's okay to get other people's opinions, but remember that you are the one in the situation, not the person offering advice. You have to decide what's best for you. And if you believe in God or a higher power, talk to Him. He listens and answers prayers. It may not be the answer you want, but He will answer. And for heaven's sake, if you are in an abusive (physically, emotionally, whatever) relationship, don't let anyone talk you into staying. You can't whip my azz or cuss me out and put me down one minute and then tell me that you love me the next and everything's fine. Aw, hell no!! If that's you, girlfriend, get help and get out. Do it for you and your children if you have any. Oh, yeah, there are professional counselors who do this for a living and many of them are males who can give you the benefit of a male perspective as well. Someone mentioned Dr. Ronn Elmore on Phyllis' blog.

Don't forget to check out Phyllis V. Du'Gas and Sharon P. Carson.
