Barack Obama: Ready to Lead

Barack Obama Democratic Presidential Nomination Acceptance Speech

Barack Obama: Ready to Lead

History was made tonight…
Barack Obama officially took on the fight
To take hold of the reins of the United States
And to lead her back to her status of numerous greats

America was a great economic power
She had a great military ready to defend her at any hour
The old girl still has great citizens ready to roll up a sleeve
And rebuild her into a nation in whom everyone can trust and believe

Obama will lead the fight but he will not be alone
Joe Biden agreed to be his running mate, putting his experience
and ability on loan
In the Senate, Hillary Clinton, whenever she gets the call,
will answer her phone
And with the speech he gave tonight, Obama showed he’s firmly in the game
and he will play it to the bone!

Democrats like former President Bill Clinton and veteran Senator Ted Kennedy
have all converged
Demonstrating their support. And support from the undecided they’ve
strongly urged
Leaving no doubt that a willing, capable and necessary leader has been
found in this man
That’s why even Republicans and Independents are joining in the Obama
chants of “Change” and “Yes, we can!”

Hillary Rodham Clinton: Deep Tracks

Hillary Clinton at the 2008 DNC

Hillary Rodham Clinton: Deep Tracks

In your bid for the Democratic Presidential nomination,
you made quite a stand
Proved yourself more than a worthy opponent; had your say
But when the time came to unite a fractured party
You stepped up and supported Barack Obama in the strongest way

Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, you are a political powerhouse
You met every challenge and exceeded expectations to become
a Democratic dynamo
Women the world over are still cheering you on
With well-deserved applause for the Hillary we’ve come to admire and know

You fought a protracted, difficult battle
And came closer to winning the coveted White House
seat than any woman in history
In the process, a role model was forged
That every female, young, old, or in between should see

Thanks to you, that ever present glass ceiling
Now has, in your own words, 18 million cracks
The ties that bind sisterhood are stronger than ever
And countless young women will be proud to follow in your deep tracks

9-year-old pitched from league... told he's too good!

Jericho Scott used to pitch for his team as a participating member of the Youth Baseball League of New Haven. The 9-year-old can throw a fastball that has been clocked at 40 mph. League officials told the youngster that he is too good to play in their youth league. If you think something stinks about this story, you may be sniffing out the truth. The Miami Herald has the full story.

Click here to read the entire article that uncovers some controversial allegations related to the ouster of Jericho and the disbanding of his team.

A Little Late but Better Than Never...

Hello All! I failed to post these two poems I wrote in tribute to Estelle Getty of the Golden Girls fame and the sinfully soulful Isaac Hayes, best remembered for composing the theme from the movie Shaft, his popular albums (as they were called back in the day), Hot Buttered Soul and Black Moses, and as the voice of Chef from South Park. At least we still have the reruns and the music to keep them in our hearts and minds.

Final Curtain Call

A Golden Girl’s gone home, unfortunately
But she left a legacy of laughter and joy for you and me

The only mother in the world who could make her daughter the butt of a
cruel joke at the drop of a hat
And have us falling down with laughter waiting for more of that

After a stroke destroyed her brain’s filter, it was only the truth she spoke
The spunky Italian implant was always serious yet hilarious, but never a joke

Sophia always had a story to tell when her loved ones or friends needed
advice or were feeling low
With two simple words, “Picture it,” it was off to the past with her we’d go

No more stories left for Sophia to tell
The end of “Picture it,” the phrase we know so well

Although it was agreed by all that Sophia stole the show
Estelle was not one her own horn to blow

Her battle is over. Estelle Getty took her final curtain call
But that sassy Sicilian Golden Girl will live on, loved always by us all

Isaac Hayes: Something is wrong

That deep, Hot Buttered Soul voice from the south
Became known the world over as a musically bad mutha (shut yo’ mouth)!
Instrumental genius, innovator of lyrical smoothness…
Isaac Hayes’ bass infused vocals caressed our ears with finesse

The theme for Shaft won awards and made Hayes a household name
Soul music lovers were glad that the Tennessee native was in the game
Stax Records studio in Memphis was his songwriting playground
Where Hayes played in the band and crafted tunes with his unique sound

In later years, Isaac Hayes decided to try his hand at comedy
Opening up a whole new side of the artist for a younger generation to see
He acted in movies such as “I’m Gonna Get You Sucka” and “Hustle and Flow”
Black Moses, something is wrong with your fans… we’re saddened that you
had to go
