Charles F. Bolden, Jr., who has flown four space missions, has been nominated by President Obama to navigate NASA through the some rocky times. The Columbia, S.C. native and retired Marine Maj. Gen. is withholding comment on being picked for the position until the Senate confirmations are held. Colleagues and friends of Bolden speak of him as a capable and caring leader who will be the perfect person for the job. He still lives in Houston a few miles from Johnson Space Center where he owns a consulting firm.
