Officials have not reported any fatalities or serious injuries in conjunction with the crash of a US Airways plane earlier this afternoon. Two engines on the plane were not functioning after striking a bird. The collision sent the plane into the Hudson River with 150 passengers on board.
US Airways flight 1549 had departed LaGuardia heading for Charlotte, N.C. when the accident occurred. The New York Fire Department and the Coast Guard launched rescue efforts with assistance from several ferries that surrounded the plane while waiting for passengers to board for taxi to the shore. The waters of the Hudson River are extremely frigid which heightened concern for the safety of the plane crash survivors.
